Before starting any of the ideas here, check with your doctor that they will help you retain or regain your balance.
Improving your balance is an easy thing to do at home. You can find different ways to work with your balance all day through the day. Is one of the first things you do when you get up to clean your teeth? So change your habit and clean your teeth starting on one leg. Change feet part of the way through. And if you think you might lose your balance, put the raised foot down. If you feel as though your balance is very poor you can do this with the heel of 1 foot rasied.
Do you like gardening? There must be lots of ways to improve your balance as you garden. If you are digging, as you raised your foot to put it onto the spade or fork, leave it in the air for a few seconds before you take that step. Depending on how comfortable you feel you could try weeding on one foot. Or picking up some of the leaves on one foot.
Even by doing this for a few minutes a day you will start to see an improvement. Your body and your brain will both rewire to help you. You will find that if you start to do that one little thing, you will be able to do it in other places too. Washing the dished? Raise one foot and then, when you need to, change to the other. There are lots of occasions when you can do this and you can use your imagination and sense of fun to think up some different situations.
